Mexico: Electoral Campaigns (Part Two)

Less than one month before the elections, the parties and candidates continue to engage in intensive campaigns in their run for office.

While this process develops, the National Electoral Institute continues to review expenses incurred by the parties and candidates, of the companies that grant them publicity, in addition to verifying that the content of these campaigns complies with the corresponding regulatory framework.

Despite the sanitary crisis, and with the country gradually moving away from lockdown (50% states in yellow and 40% in green), public events related to the campaigns have been organized with no inconveniences other than maintaining basic sanitary and hygiene measures established in each locality.

Similarly, campaigns were carried out mostly online thanks to the penetration of technology and especially to the use of social media. This process was regulated by the electoral authority, and the parties and candidates were able to profit from this scenario.

Public events and advertising in traditional and digital media constitute a channel for the candidates to convey their proposals, programs and actions to the population. These initiatives were approved by the INE within the electoral platforms at the beginning of January of this year.

In this spirit, Ágora México has prepared a document that gives an account of the ideas and proposals of the electoral campaigns in the states of Campeche, Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Querétaro, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas.
